I would pick Mount Rainier, assuming it is a clear summer day.


I would get to Paradise early enough to catch the first light on the mountain, then start the Skyline Trail before the crowds build up. If I only had one day, that would be the hike I would not want to miss. You get the mountain, wildflowers, waterfalls and some great views without spending the entire day driving around.


After the hike I would have a late lunch around Paradise or Longmire and take some time to recover instead of trying to squeeze in another big trail.


For the afternoon I would make a few easy stops on the drive, then finish the day somewhere around Reflection Lakes for the evening light if conditions are good.


Not the most ambitious itinerary, but with only one day I would rather really enjoy one part of Rainier than spend half the day in the car trying to see everything.
